HoonArts Fair Trade and Nob Hill Fabrics are delighted to host Zhanyl Sharshembieva, one of the renowned members of Seven Sisters of Kyrgyzstan, for a special Master Felting Class in Albuquerque. Join us to learn the magical wet-felting techniques that make the stunning Seven Sisters scarves and wraps one of today’s most sought-after products from the heart of the modern Silk Road in Central Asia. The Seven Sisters products, which capture the spirit of the Kyrgyz people through the traditional “ala-kiyis” felting techniques and the historic Kyrgyz patterns containing sacred meanings, have garnered numerous UNESCO awards and are a perennial favorite at the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market.
Zhanyl will bring all the materials needed for you to make your own felted silk scarf, 58” long X 18” wide, along with the stories behind the processes and patterns. Plan on a full day of interaction with this Master Artist! To maximize the learning experience, the class is only open for ten participants.
