Welcome to the 'Stans
Are you longing for the chance to travel again? Are you looking for something unique in the world of textile arts that gets you up close and personal with artists from a unique culture? Would you like to create something special with your own hands during this holiday season?
Then our upcoming Suzani Embroidery Master Class is perfect for you.
In this suzani stitch-along workshop, participants will learn about the history and meaning of the traditional Central Asian world of suzani embroidery from an award-winning master embroidery artist and teacher, Munira Akilova. As participants immerse themselves in the suzani world, they will each work on recreating for themselves the “Qalanfur” or “Pepper” pattern, one of the most popular traditional suzani patterns from the region.
We will supply a pdf version of the suzani pattern and a related E-Book about Suzani Embroidery by email after you register. Participants will need to transfer the pattern to the base fabric of their choice. Participants will also need to supply their own embroidery thread, needles, and hoops. The pdf pattern will have color suggestions for traditional color palettes, but you may of course create your own color palette.
Munira will be connecting with you from her home in Khujand, Tajikistan, one of the main stops along the ancient Silk Road.
We're keeping the experience intimate by limiting it to 20 participants. This class is recommended for embroidery enthusiasts with at least an INTERMEDIATE LEVEL of skills.
Join us for a virtual travel experience and embroidery master class like no other. Leave the mask and the jet lag behind. Be prepared to laugh and learn as you travel 12 time zones away to a part of the world most people can't find on a map.
