Why do we travel?

There are lots of reasons that people choose to travel. The little video below capturesย my own top reasons. ๐Ÿ’š

I'll start the ball rolling with my most recent trip to Boulder, Colorado, a 7-8 hour drive from my home in Albuquerque. I drove up withย my friend Phyllis, who has been a friend since junior high! Phyllis lives two hours away and we don't get to see each other that often. When we do get together, it never feels like we have enough time.ย Phyllisย graciously agreed to help me with two HoonArts events planned for the weekend, so I picked her up on the way to Colorado.

The weekend was jam-packed, and successful from a business perspective. But what did I bring home thatย will haveย the most lasting impact for me?

The most memorable aspects of that tripย had less to do with the business achievements and a lot more to do with personal connection.ย Duringย the long drives and extended meals withย Phyllis, we caught up with each other's daily lives, talked about world issues and our own life challenges in a relaxed way that wasn't limited by the next event scheduled on the calendar.ย

And then there was the amazing dinner of fabulous food and even better conversation, constantly punctuated by laughter, at the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse on Sunday evening.ย We really got to know the team that has operated the Teahouse for over 25 years,ย as well a couple of theย originalย Sister Cities members that were instrumental in building the Boulder-Dushanbe relationship andย shepherding the Teahouse from an idea into the regional landmark and gathering place it is today. The storytelling was a priceless treat!

Those are the experiences that will stay with me for a very long time. So I invite you toย commentย  below or send me an email about what took you on your last trip, and what will stick with you long beyond the return home.
