Rescuing Art & Culture in Tajikistan in the 21st Century-Munira Akilova (March 27, 2021)
Are you longing for the chance to travel again? Are you looking for something unique that gets you up close and personal with an exotic culture you've never experienced before? Are you tired of the typical "canned" virtual tour experience?
Then our upcoming Live Online Cultural Experience is perfect for you. Munira Akilova, manager and designer for Armughon Handicrafts and Arinumcrafts of Tajikistan, will be opening the doorway to the culture and history of Tajikistan as embodied in the traditional textile arts.
She'll also be introducing you to the customs of Navruz, the biggest spring holiday celebration throughout Central Asia. You'll be joining her for the last day of the weeklong Navruz festival in Tajikistan.
Munira will be connecting with you from her home in Khujand, Tajikistan, one of the main stops along the ancient Silk Road.
We're keeping the experience intimate by limiting it to 15 participants.
Join us for a virtual travel experience like no other. Leave the mask and the jet lag behind. Be prepared to laugh and learn as you travel 12 time zones away to a part of the world most people can't find on a map.
WHEN: SATURDAY, MARCH 27, 8:00-9:15 PM MOUNTAIN TIME (7:00-8:15 pm Pacific Time, 9:00-10:15 pm Central Time, 10:00-11:15 pm Eastern Time)
WHERE: Zoom (link will be sent by email to those who register)
HOW TO REGISTER: Click the "Add to Cart" button below and complete the "Payment" process.
Why so late? Tajikistan is 12 times zones away from New Mexico, literally on the other side of the globe. They don't observe Daylight Savings Time in Tajikistan, so when it's 8:00 pm in New Mexico, it's 7:00 am the next morning in Tajikistan.
What to expect? The internet in Tajikistan is not the broadband we have become used to in the US, especially during the pandemic. We may experience an occasional screen freeze or audio blip. However, based on recent test calls with Munira's new computer and internet connection, the video and audio are the same general quality we experience with Zoom calls in the US.
